LEJEND
UDC: Name? Who you are. Background Information?
L:
I go by the name of Lejend. I have been emceeing for about eleven years. After battling and free styling throughout college I met, Dalux, my producer through a mutual friend; we had similar interests in music and decided to work together. We went into the studio to start recording my debut album called "Unconditional"
UDC: Explain what Lejend means to you?
L: It means musical evolution, lyrical preservation and the progression of true hip-hop. It is more than just music, it is about spreading a message of social and political change.
UDC: Who are your musical influences? Why?
L:
John Coltrane and Miles Davis because they are spontaneous, energetic and have a flare to their style. I feel that these artist are very similar to how we are now. For example, jazz of that nature was not popular back during it's beginning and I feel that the underground music that we do is not popular in all arenas at this point. But as far as hip-hop goes, I would have to say Ras Kass, Talib Kweli, Common, Living Legends, Roots, and Outkast. READ MORE BELOW

MONEY WATERS
UDC: Name? Who you are. Background Information?
MW: It’s Money Waters straight from the grove Dallas, Texas. I got an album called “The Porch” its live blues tracks over Southern rap. It has never been done before. I’m from here and all I talk is here. Williams’ chicken and all. I’m out here grinding doing my thing man.
UDC: How did your exposure come about and how has it benefited your music?
MW:
Everything helps. Everything is press so I stay out here grinding. Everything I’ve sold has been straight to the people. You probably didn’t get my album in the stores. You got it from your partner or from me for real. I’m just out here grinding making things happen for the DFW.
UDC: What is your take on the radio’s lack of support of local artists?
MW:
The radio stations we have are main stream stations. They play the top 40. They play the top 40 of what the world is playing. When I went to Jackson and we were riding down the street, I was hearing something different every hour. Here in Dallas we hear Ashanti, Ja Rule or R. Kelly every hour. You know how we do it at K104 and 97.9. Over in Jackson their playing things that we haven’t heard before. READ MORE BELOW

UDC: Tell us about your next project you will be working on.
T:
I'm wrapping up an EP called “The Birth of Whack EP”. It's a seven song EP produce by S1, Symbolic One of Strange Fruit Project. It's real tight, organic with live instruments. It's good stuff man.
UDC: What do you think of the Dallas Hip Hop scene right now?
T:
It's pretty steady. As of lately there has been an increase in the quality of artists. Maybe that's do to the fact that people are able to record at their house now; it's just a lot cheaper to make quality work. There are many artist in the Dallas area trying to come up and do their thing. Such as Money Waters and Pikahsso look out for these artists. I think those guys are going to create that Dallas sound. TAPE MASTAH STEPH
UDC: What are three items that you need when in the studio
TMS:
First a mic, if its a computer mic or not (laughs), second maybe a turntable, or even a CD and then sample it or recreate it something. Just be playful with what you got. Then after that you need a recording station. I've seen cats record on some playskool tape decks and release tapes for five dollars.
UDC: How do you feel the internet has effective your type of music and music as a whole?
TMS:
In the most major way my mind could have possibly imagined in my dreams and in the real world. The internet exposed me to the world. To all the different styles. From Japan, Finland, France and Germany that's what the internet has done for me. I'm using the internet and everyone is using the internet. It’s a good thing but I 'm just sick of SPAM all that junk mail sh**.
